BooSt SCRIPTS

BooSt is the netBook Pro's bootloader. On a cold start it looks at the root
of an inserted CF card for a file called exactly
nbkpro.img
and if one is there, it loads and RUNS it. That is the whole mechanism: each
folder here holds one such script, and you drive a step by copying that
folder's nbkpro.img to the root of a FAT-formatted card and booting.
The scripts are tiny -- a few hundred bytes -- because the payload is one or
two lines of text inside a 256-byte BooSt header.
stepA-dump/ look at the NAND. Harmless. DO THIS FIRST.
stepB-repartition-540/ repartition for 32 MB hardware
step2-upgrade/ write BooSt, Windows CE and PCon
psionlx-autoboot/ boot Linux from the card. Not part of the
restore; included as an example of a safe
script.
Order: A, then B, then 2. Read README-RESTORE-WINDOWS-CE.txt one level up
before running any of them.
THE REASON THIS MECHANISM IS DANGEROUS

Because BooSt runs nbkpro.img automatically, a card can erase your machine
simply by being inserted. The script that did exactly that during this
project is preserved -- for the record, not for use -- in
3-PSION-SOURCES/original-images/, deliberately renamed so BooSt cannot find
it. Do not rename it back.
If you obtain a PsionLX or Linux CF card from anywhere else, look at
partition 1 and read any nbkpro.img on it before booting:
strings nbkpro.img | tail -5
A safe boot script says "load nBkProOS.img run". One containing the word
"nand" alters your internal flash.
