jLime 2012.3: a full XFCE desktop on Linux 3.2.9, built for this machine in
March 2012. 28,423 files.
COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO PsionLX. Seven years newer, a different kernel, a
different desktop, and nothing of Psion's in it -- no GPE, no Psion branding,
no gpe-appmgr.
IT IS HERE FOR TWO REASONS.
1. IF YOU WANT A USABLE SYSTEM RATHER THAN A HISTORICAL RECONSTRUCTION,
THIS IS IT. PsionLX is a 2004 system with a 2004 browser; jLime is a
2012 system with a modern-for-its-time XFCE, a 3.2 kernel and working
package management. For actually doing something with a netBook Pro,
jLime is the better answer and it would be dishonest to leave it out.
2. Its kernel modules are a useful hardware reference -- airo, hostap,
orinoco and spectrum for wireless cards, dtl1_cs and bluecard_cs for
Bluetooth, usb-storage. If you are trying to work out whether a
particular PCMCIA card works in this machine, that module list is
evidence.
It also contains a fourth nBkProOs.img, a 3.2.9-nbpro kernel, which is
not usable with the PsionLX root filesystem but shows the boot image
format was still being used in 2012.
jlime.com is gone. This copy came from HPC:Factor, who mirrored the whole
jLime archive when the site died.
INSTALLING IT is not covered here -- see HPC:Factor. Do not mix it with the
PsionLX images; they are separate systems.
