PsionLX-themed GPE for the Psion netBook Pro -- CF card install =============================================================== An overlay that applies the recovered Psion user interface to the working GPE root filesystem for the netBook Pro. WHAT THIS IS The genuine Psion theme, session, help and tutorial files, recovered from Psion's own OpenEmbedded build tree, applied on top of a GPE rootfs that is known to boot on this machine. It is NOT the original PsionLX rootfs. Two components of that system exist only in Psion's private CVS (cvs.psiondev.com, dead): gpe-appmgr the launcher grid -> matchbox-desktop substitutes gpe-buttonbox the button bar -> mb-applet-launcher substitutes Everything else here is Psion's own files, unmodified. WHAT YOU NEED gpe-fs-cf.tar.bz2 the base root filesystem (included, 14 MB) nBkProOs.img_cf kernel + initrd (included, 3.5 MB) psionlx-overlay.tar.gz this overlay INSTALL (on a Linux machine, as root -- macOS will not preserve permissions, ownership or device nodes) 1. Partition the CF card with one Linux (ext2) partition. mkfs.ext2 /dev/sdX1 2. Mount it and unpack the base filesystem: mount /dev/sdX1 /mnt tar -xjf gpe-fs-cf.tar.bz2 -C /mnt 3. Apply this overlay on top: tar -xzf psionlx-overlay.tar.gz -C /mnt 4. Point the GTK theme at the Psion theme (the overlay already ships etc/gpe/xsettings-default.d/psion-xsettings, which sets Net/ThemeName:S:psion -- verify it is being read, and if the image uses etc/gpe/xsettings.default instead, change the line Net/ThemeName:S:Angelistic to Net/ThemeName:S:psion 5. Copy the kernel to the CF card root, named exactly: cp nBkProOs.img_cf /mnt/nBkProOs.img 6. umount /mnt, put the card in the netBook Pro, and boot. WHAT YOU SHOULD SEE The Psion GTK theme and Matchbox window decorations, a 48-pixel panel along the bottom in the PsionLX position, and launcher buttons for the applications that exist in this rootfs: Calculator gpe-calculator Sketch Pad gpe-sketchbook Text Editor gpe-edit Calendar gpe-calendar Contacts gpe-contacts To-do list gpe-todo Image Viewer gpe-gallery with the clock and battery applets at the right, as Psion's own psion.mbdock specified. NOT PRESENT (they were never in this rootfs) Word (abiword), Sheet (gnumeric), Email (balsa), Web (firefox), Instant Messenger (gaim), Internet Dialler (gkdial), Remote Desktop (grdesktop), My Network (linneighborhood), PDF Viewer (gpdf), Media Player (totem), Solitaire, Files (gpe-filemanager), Terminal. Note: abiword IS present in the other recovered image, anonymous-linuxtogo/gpe-image.jffs2 (22.8 MB), which is a NAND image rather than a CF filesystem. WARNING netbook-booting.txt states the LX prototype partitions NAND with nand -ignore erase 18 ee8 ; nand partition e8 while a standard netBook Pro needs 7e8 instead of e8. This CF install does not touch NAND, so your Windows CE installation is untouched and the machine boots CE normally with the card removed.
