PsionLX BETA running on a Psion Teklogix netBook Pro Photographs by Reddit user fss_88 (= fss-hacks on HPC:Factor), posted to r/OldHandhelds circa 2026-08-01 in album https://imgur.com/a/4wyt5y9 psionlx-beta-splash-screen.jpeg 3427x4570 Boot splash: Psion blockletter logo, "LX", "BETA" beneath. psionlx-today-screen.jpeg 3024x4032 The Today screen. Vertical amber tabs at right: TODAY, PROGRAMS, TASKS. Bottom bar: Desk, Docs, Email, Web, Word, Sheet, Calendar, Contacts, with eject, volume, battery and clock at bottom right. Large pale Psion watermark down the left. Reads: "Saturday 07 February 2004" "WiFi card not present" / "Not connected to the Internet" "Inbox not available" / "Outbox not available" "No appointments" / "To-do list is empty" [ ] Show this screen at startup This UI matches the independent Pulster.com photograph of a netBook Pro prototype running Psion Linux, confirming both show the same OS. RETRIEVAL NOTE: imgur.com geo-blocks (returns "Content not available in your region"), so neither the album page nor i.imgur.com direct links resolve from the UK. Fetched instead through the rimgo privacy frontend at rimgo.privacyredirect.com, which proxies the media. Album carried imgur media ids OCkX37Z and fjx6d84. ================================================================================ NOT PHOTOGRAPHS -- these two are screenshots of OUR reconstruction ================================================================================ Everything above is a photograph of Psion's own machine. The two files below are not: they are screen captures taken from the rebuilt CF image running on Joshua's netBook Pro on 2026-09-28, over ssh with xwd, and converted from the 16-bit XWD capture to PNG. They are here for comparison against the photographs, and must not be cited as evidence of what Psion shipped. reconstruction-programs-screen.png 800x600 The PROGRAMS screen as our build renders it, laid out correctly. Four groups as Psion's photograph has them -- OFFICE, INTERNET, PIM, OTHER -- but carrying more applications than the photograph does; the extra ones are deliberate, and the cut-down archival image (psionlx-cf-1gb-asphotographed.img) is the one that matches the photograph's 21. Visible and correct here: the dock reading Desk, Docs, Email, Web, Word, Sheet, Calendar, Contacts, Other; Firefox shown as "Web" with the globe; balsa shown as "Email"; the amber TODAY / PROGRAMS / TASKS strip down the right; the Psion watermark down the left. reconstruction-programs-screen-overflow-bug.png 800x600 The same screen in the intermittent failure state, kept because it is the evidence for the diagnosis. Every row is 8px taller, 56px cumulative, which pushes the last row of OTHER under the panel. See docs/05-WORK-LOG.md; the cause was never proven and gpe-appmgr now re-lays-out once when it detects the overflow. gpe-gallery-netbook-browser-640.png (added 2026-09-29) 640x480, from gpe.linuxtogo.org/gallery/albums/Applications/netbook.sized.png via the Wayback Machine. Dated April 2005 by its own page content. Shows gpe-mini-browser over the full dock: Desk, Docs, Email, Web, Word, Sheet, Calendar, Contacts, Other, with a text clock and signal-strength bars. IT IS NOT A PsionLX REFERENCE. Do not "correct" the build toward it. Its Desk button carries GPE's own blue paw logo; the photograph and this build both use Psion's grey desk icon. Its tray shows a text clock and wireless bars where the photograph has an analogue clock and none, and its dock ground is pale green against the photograph's blue. This is generic GPE on a netBook, from before or outside Psion's branding work. What it IS good for: the first native-resolution capture of this dock we have -- real pixels rather than a camera pointed at a screen -- so it is a sound reference for button geometry, label placement and the shared icons (Docs, Email, Word, Sheet, Calendar all match the photograph). It also settles the "Other" button: gpe-buttonbox-0.5 only shows that slot when a RUNNING window matches no preset (gpe-buttonbox.c:657, other_classes != NULL). It is a task slot, not a launcher. This build does the same -- the slot reads "Totem" or "Book1.xls :" when those run, and is absent on a bare desktop. Nothing is missing.
