Contacts

As with the Calendar, this simple Contact manager should be familiar to anybody who has used a "PDA" or personal organiser, or who has used a "Contacts" feature in a "Personal Information Manager" program ("PIM") like Microsoft Outlook, or Lotus Notes.

When you click the 'New' button on the Toolbar, a dialog is shown, allowing you to enter whatever contact information you have for a person. (It also has a second 'tab' entitled 'About', in which you can enter more personal information, such as birthdays.)

The names of the people you enter appear in a list down the left of the screen.

You can click on a name in the list on the left, and the full details for that person will be shown in the main part of the screen.

When you start entering a lot of contacts, it may be quickest to get to a particular one by typing in part of their name in the Find box, at the bottom left of the screen. You can type the start of any part of their name - typically forename or surname. As you type, the list of matching names quickly reduces on the left of the screen. You can either keep typing the rest of that part of the name, which may bring the list of matching names down to one, or you can just click on the name you want in this reduced list at any time.

The Toolbar offers all of the required functionality - there is no separate menu in Contacts.

You can of course Cut, Copy and Paste entire entries, or parts of them, with the hotkeys Ctrl+X/C/V.

You can synchronise your Contacts at any time with Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook Express. Click 'Synchronise with a PC' on the 'Tasks' screen to do this.
